Advertising your event

There are many platforms to advertise your event. Generally, you should start advertising your event at least 8 weeks before the event date, or as soon as you have the date and key information such as the title and venue.

Faculty of Law mailing lists
To advertise via the Faculty mailing lists contact the Timetabling and Events Administrator (TEA).  Provide the key details of your event and who you would like it advertised to (i.e. All staff and students / postgraduates only / undergraduates only). The Faculty Events email goes out once a week on a Monday - if you would like your event advertised you must tell the TEA by the Friday before the Events email goes out at the latest.
Note: The final circulation for the term is on Monday Week 9.

Dean's Newsletter
The Dean's Newsletter is circulated every week on Thursday. The Faculty's Communications team is responsible for managing the collection of news and the circulation of the newsletter. The deadline for submitting content for the week is on Tuesday, 1:30pm. For more information, please contact the Communications team.

Oxford Talks (OxTalks)
Oxford Talks is a centrally maintained list of events taking place across the collegiate University. Event organisers can request editorial rights to create events listing on Oxford Talks. You would first need to contact the Oxford Talks helpdesk to set up an account. The Faculty's Events team can also add the listing on your behalf.

Social Sciences Division Bulletin
Some events may be relevant to other colleagues within the Social Sciences Division. A request can be put through to the Central SSD Communications team to advertise the event in the weekly SSD bulletin.

Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) bulletin
As with the SSD bulletin, events may also be advertised in the DPIR weekly bulletin. Events will need to be listed in Oxford talks beforehand, in order to feed into the DPIR bulletin.

Faculty of Law Events listing
To advertise via the Faculty Events webpage, you can create your event on the webpage (you will need to sign in with your SSO) or submit a webform for addition to the site.

Information required to set up a new event page:

  • Title of Conference/Workshop/Seminar
  • Conference Leader’s name, group, or organisation
  • Do you want pictures on the webpage?
  • Is the event open to the public or only to members of the University?
  • Information you want delegates to know about the conference
  • A link to the registration/payments page and accommodation page (they may be separate links)
  • Do you want papers uploaded to the website?
  • Do you want the conference programme to be uploaded to the website?

Main University events page
If your event is open to the public you can also advertise on the Main University Events Page.  Do not advertise on this page if your event is only for members of the Faculty of Law/your college.

Gazette and Blueprint magazine
To advertise with either of these publications you will need to take into account their submission deadlines and publication dates.

  • Gazette
The Gazette is published on Thursdays during the term. The usual deadline for submitting copy for each issue is noon on Wednesday of the week before publication (ie eight days before publication).
Gazette publication dates 2025-26 and deadlines.
  • Blueprint
Blueprint is the magazine for staff at the University of Oxford. Published once a term, Blueprint carries a mix of news and features, plus staff interviews and other aspects of University and college life.

Social media accounts
If you are using Social Media to publicise your event, consider creating a hashtag especially for the event.

  • Use it on your delegate/speaker packs, posters etc.
  • Add your hashtag and twitter handle to a PowerPoint welcome slide as a visible reminder.

If you use X and you want the Faculty to retweet your event announcement/news, please mention @oxlawfac in your tweet so our Head of Communications can easily find it.

College website
Academics who are holding an event in their college may consider contacting the college's events/conference team about advertising the event on the college website.
