About the Event

The discussion will focus on strategies to protect victims' digital rights in the age of deepfakes, harassment, and disinformation. Speakers will share their experiences working to restore trust, and ensure accountability, in the digital age.
On the panel:
Cara Hunter is a politician, and communications and campaign specialist. She is currently serving as a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly for East Londonderry. She will be sharing her work on conducting research to develop a UK-wide AI ecosystem that supports victims impacted by tech-facilitated abuse.
Gayatri Malhotra is a practicing advocate based in India. As Litigation Counsel at the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF), she has appeared before the Supreme Court of India and various High Courts, representing parties in matters concerning internet shutdowns, online censorship, media freedom, privacy, data protection, and the regulation of emerging technologies.
Ms. Malhotra will be discussing her litigation work challenging the constitutional validity of India’s “fake news” law, as well as cases addressing the role of Big Tech and the current state of online censorship, particularly involving the takedown of entire social media accounts and websites.
