Bonavero Institute at the Climate Change and Human Rights Global Summit
Associated people
Bonavero Institute of Human Rights was a key partner of the University of Oxford’s global summit on climate change and human rights.
The centrepiece of the summit was a hybrid global event held on World Environment Day, 5 June 2025. A 24-hour academic plenary, which brought together leading thinkers and practitioners working at the intersection of human rights and climate change, was broadcast live across time zones. Dr Ekaterina, research fellow at the Bonavero Institute, took the floor during the Oxford segment of the global plenary and addressed the climate change responsibilities of corporations.
The Bonavero Institute hosted two events during the global summit week. On 4 June, Dr Aristova chaired a hybrid panel discussion exploring how universities, as key knowledge hubs, should respond to the climate crisis. The event brought together legal scholars and practitioners to reflect on these challenges from comparative and global perspectives and offered insights into how legal education and research can drive meaningful change. An audio recording of the event is available on our SoundCloud channel which is accessible via our Watch & Listen page.
On 6 June, Professor Başak Çalı and Dr Marcelo Lozada Gomez, convened a one-day international conference that brought together academics and practitioners to examine whether and how successful human rights-based climate litigation can deliver effective climate action.
