Marriage in the Legal Archives
Associated people
On 6th March, Dr Ian Williams participated in an interdisciplinary conversation with Professor Nandini Chatterjee (Asian and Middle Eastern Studies) on ‘marriage in the legal archives’, hosted by the Centre for Early Modern Studies. Both discussed the difficulties in researching marital disputes in very different archives and how such challenges can be addressed. Dr Williams’s focus was on the criminalisation of clandestine marriage in early-modern England by the court of Star Chamber, the court which is the primary focus of his current research.
An account of the event has been published by the Centre for Early Modern Studies.
